The Kallang Park Connector runs along the water, flat and traffic-free.
Step out and you are on the Kallang riverside path. Turn one way and it carries you down towards the old National Stadium and the bay; turn the other and it leads up to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, where a family of otters has made the river home. No junctions, no traffic lights, just a long green ribbon of water for a morning walk, an evening jog or a slow cycle.

Hawker centres worth the walk
Two proper old hawker centres, and your groceries, all within reach.
This is a part of town that still eats well and cheaply. Upper Boon Keng is known for its soup kambing and char kway teow; Whampoa, a little further, for fish head bee hoon and duck rice. Potong Pasir adds a run of easy cafes for a flat white and a laptop, and The Poiz Centre covers the everyday groceries and pharmacy runs. You can eat somewhere different every night of the week without getting in a car.

An afternoon in Balestier
Old shophouses, famous snacks and a quiet temple, all on foot.
Cross over on the Whampoa Park Connector and you are in Balestier, one of the city's oldest and most characterful streets. Queue for Loong Fatt's tau sar piah, take a side in the long-running chicken rice rivalry, and duck into the calm of the Burmese Buddhist Temple. It is the kind of afternoon you will want to show visitors, ten minutes from your door.
Note: the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall on this trail is closed for restoration and is expected to reopen in 2027. Correct as of July 2026.
When you want to go further
Weekends, further afield
The forest one way, another country the other, both easy from here.
Some weekends you want more than the neighbourhood. MacRitchie Reservoir and its TreeTop Walk, a suspension bridge over the forest canopy, are about a fifteen minute drive. And Johor Bahru, with its food and its outlet malls, is just across the Causeway by bus today. The new cross-border RTS Link train is targeted to open by December 2026, which would put JB a few minutes from Woodlands North.
